I have just bought an Epson Perfection 2450 which boasts a scanning
resolution of 2400x4800 (whatever that means in real money!) and it
works very well. It has USB or firewire connection and it comes with
Photoshop Elements (I wish that Adobe would get on and convert it to
Mac OSX). I have scanned 645 with it and a 10x8 B/W print and the
results are excellent for me. The Epson interface is good with the
Epson Smart Panel or you can use the TWAIN driver (again not yet
available for OSX) in another application like Elements.
The alternative flatbed is the Canoscan D2400U which is USB only, but
which has image improvement software built-in (called FARE).
On the film scanner front, the Minolta Scan Multi is apparently good,
but that would cost a bit less than the Nikon multi-format scanner.

Hey all
I know there are a bunch of list members out there who have film scanners so
hopefully the advice will be "fast and furious". My parents have just gone
though all their junk and found old negs. Format include 16mm (small square
neg) and the "large" 120 format (i.e. the big square negs). Is there a film
scanner out there that will do these (i.e., a variety of scanning trays to
take different negatives.). The only one I can see with this versatility is
the Nikon Coolscan 8000 ED, which is $4000 Canadian!!!! Maybe a flatbed
scanner with a TMA? Any advice is most appreciated.
Thanks,
