The circuitry that determines when to release the second shutter curtain is,
by any reasonable definition of the term, a computer. Specifically, it's an
analog computer performing integration.
Electronic analog computers were used for many years until digital computers
became fast enough to handle integral and differential equations with
reasonable accuracy. Heath even sold an analog computer kit, ca. 1960.
