The OM-2(n) has 2 separate meters. The one you see in the viewfinder is
used to recommend a shutter speed in Manual mode and to give an estimate
of the shutter speed that will be chosen by the second system after you
push the shutter release in Auto mode. In Auto mode, the auto meter
controls the shutter speed based on TTL readings off the first curtain
and film after the mirror is up, with no reference to the other metering
system.
It sounds like the auto system is working and the viewfinder one isn't.
