I have bought four and sold three of these; construction quality seems to
vary, although it may be abuse by previous owners. My current one is sharp
and in fine condition, and cost me 10GBP (plus shipping) on UK eB*y. Prices
are typically quite low (10-20GBP). There is a similar 70-210 3.8-4 model
which some people reckon has better performance; I have also had one of
those, but did not like the plasticky 'feel'.
In general, the two 70-210 SP models (earlier two-touch, 1:2 macro; later
one-touch, 1:2.6 macro) inspire more confidence. The one-touch especially
is very sharp; see Gary's test.
But for bang-for-the-buck, and flexibility, the 80-210 is fine.

I'm looking for any available info on the TAMRON CF TELE MACRO 80-210
f3.8-4
zoom lens (Does 1:2.8 macro at 16 inches according to Tamron).
Specifically, I want opinions of quality of build, quality of results, and
any pros/cons you can think of.
I just picked one up CHEAP on the UK e-bay & I'm curious if I'm going to
like this lens or not as compared to say, the OLY 65-200/4 (which is
traditionally ALOT more expensive). Currently, I'm pondering using it over
my 75-150/4 zuiko which I find is often not versatile enough being that if
I'm using a zoom over my primes, it's for convenience reasons.
Thanks.
