Gun safes, two of 'em, several guns in each to keep the OM gear
company. Burglar- and fire-proof. The vapor from gun oil and
cleaning solvents kills fungus, enhances the mythical bokeh of any
lens, keeps focusing mechanisms smooth, increases battery life,
prevents foam rot, keeps filters from sticking, and a single whiff
will provide hours of photographic inspiration, particularly if
accompanied by an appropriate beverage. Trust me ;-)
For anybody who wants fireproof storage without the expense ($1400-
1600 each) of gun safes, check out army-navy surplus stores for
fireproof file cabinets. They aren't as secure as a safe, and not
nearly as resistant to fire (a good gun safe will do 40 minutes at
1500 degrees F), but they're cheap and lockable, and usually about
$150-200 for a four-drawer unit.
