In all likelihood, no.
A stiff ring may be due to dirt and grime, but probably something's bent. Look
closely at the ring for any signs of impact. If it's out of round, only
replacement
will do. A bent filter ring may press on the diaphragm ring, too -- if it's
bent, you
may be able to straighten it enough to keep it from rubbing on the diaphragm
ring.
Also, check the rear end -- the mount itself may be bent, or the mask over the
back
end may be rubbing on the coupling ring underneath.
