Heck, it's possible to get reasonably sharp pictures with a 500mm lens
hand-held -- just make sure the exposure time's less than 1/500th. That
doesn't leave you a lot of spare room, mind you, and it needs to be pretty
bright out -- but it certainly can be done. (of course, this depends on your
definition of "sharp" -- they look fine at 6x4, I've not tried enlarging any
of them beyond that yet)
(this is one place where the compactness of a mirror lens is actually a
disadvantage -- with one hand on the body and one at the far end of the
lens, there's less lever length to stabilise things..)
