But we don't see that many Super-8 home videos now a days. IMHO black & white photography will survive, because you can do it yourself, but C-41 and chromes will be very rare in the future. Yeah I now you can do at least E-6 development at home... // Johan I agree to an extent. Vinyl was a mature technology. It did not require a huge manufacturing facility. You could set up a low volume record factory in your living room. Although film may have a way to go technologically, making film is not a Mom and Pop operation. It takes huge investments in research, plant and equipment. When it ceases to be profitable it will be replaced by digital images. Of course there may be a sliding price point where pro photographers will continue to pay the price needed to recoup the manufacturers' investments. So, in 20 years or so, I would not be surprised to see people who are not able to do computers taking their chips to the local 1 hour service or Walmart to be downloaded and printed and B&H doing a pros only film business with 35mm film going for $75 a roll not including processing. And the film technology will be static at that point except for finding ways to make it cheaper. Since I am always surprised by the speed of change maybe not 20 years. -- Winsor Crosby Long Beach, California ? < This message was delivered via the Olympus Mailing List > < For questions, mailto:owner-olympus@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx > < Web Page: http://Zuiko.sls.bc.ca/swright/olympuslist.html > |
