I've had a lot of stuff (100s of packages) delivered by UPS and USPS and
the vast majority has come through untouched. Both have damaged a few
packages, but never the contents. The biggest danger I've seen is the
quality of the packaging. USPS is far superior for the modest size and
weight of many packages of photographic gear because of
price/performance. A lot of shippers have a UPS $10 minimum for 5+ day
ground where USPS Priority 2-3 day would be $3-6 for relatively light items.
Customs charges hasn't been an issue coming into the US, as there is no
duty or tax on used photographic equipment and I've never bought
anything new that's triggered any charge so far.

Hey ......... I had UPS ship in a bunch of medium format stuff from the
UK last year. They did a spotless job, paperwork was perfect and correct
to the penny, the delivery man wore a tie and creased pants, his van had
likely just got out of the truck wash, the parcel looked as it had just
been packed five minutes beforehand. No complaints from this cat about
UPS.
