My OM-1 also did this, a couple of years ago. The repair was a bit of a
saga, a large chain of British camera stores definitely lost one
customer in the fallout, and for a while I thought the camera was beyond
repair. But just recently I managed to get it all fixed up and it works
beautifully now. Got some photos back from it which are perfectly
exposed.
Moral of the story - the problem is most likely fixable but send it to
someone you can trust!
