Hi Rich,
I recently bought this lens in I'd say Ex condition for $110 Canadian if I
remember right. That's about $70.00 US & at the time I felt I got a great
deal considering how nice the lens is. Without question, the 35-80 2.8 is
THE BEST lens in this class. I'd put the 35-70/3.6 next. the 35-70/3.5-4.5
is often considered next because it is smaller than the other standard zooms
and takes 49mm filters, however, having owned both the 3.5-4.5 and the 4, I
like the f4 version better. Granted, it takes 55mm filters and is a bit
bulkier, but I like the fixed f4 much more than a variable aperture that
gets as bad as f4.5. Additionally, the f4 is a real nice piece of Zuiko
glass that won't break the bank as much as the 35-80/2.8 or even the
35-80/3.6, and will produce pics every bit as nice as any of the standard
zooms, and in my humble opinion, BETTER than the results of the 3.5-4.5,
which I find is not corrected as well... although this most likely varies
somewhat between different examples of the same lens.
In any event, it's a good price, the glass is nice, and let's face it... it
you wanted a lightning fast huge aperture lens, you'd be using primes! So
buy it and enjoy it as much as I enjoy mine. Hell, I sold my 3.5-4.5
version and use my f4 exclusively (at least until I buy a 3.6 or 2.8) for a
standard zoom on my OM-2n body.
The Cosina lens is a piece of crap not deserving the Olympus Zuiko decal (so
cheap I don't even think it's electro-pencilled in). Avoid it at all costs
considering you can get a nice lens used for less money.
Hope this helps.
Mike

I have an opportunity to buy a 35-70mm f:4 in mint minus condition for
$70.00 does this sound like a fair price or should I pass on it? Comments
on this lens are welcome.
Rich
