Yep, but I'm glad this SCSI topic came up as i have a related problem. I
have _two_ skuzzy scanners! I finally upgraded this old computer,
actually it's now mostly all new parts, and relegated the old one to the
shop as an email backup. We've not yet entered the 21st century but
we're into the late nineties :>) Before this I had the flatbed hooked up
to the old slow computer and the PhotoSmart connected to the slightly
less old computer. Now I'm running them both on one computer but... The
SCSI cards that come with the scanners only run their one device and
they are different versions of SCCI. I was planning ahead for a change
so this MB has lots of slots so that's not a problem. The problem is the
limited number of IRQ's. So in order to work around this I set up two
hardware profiles in Device Manager (W98) And I'll have to set up a
third in order run the NIC. This isn't as inconvenient as it sounds as
it's easy enough to change profiles in order to scan photos if you know
how to do it. What I'm trying to do though is make the default profile
come up at boot without the other computer users in the family having to
make any selections. So my question: Is there any way to use something
in W98 like the old DOS CHOICE command to default to a profile I select
after say 10 sec? Can I do this in the autoexec.bat? There currently is
nothing in the autoexec.bat about hardware profiles. And yes I know I
can easily solve this problem with $$$ but that is not an option for
now. Reply off list might be appropriate.
