I used a linear polariser with OM2SP and OM4 for about 6 years before someone told me that it did not work... However, then I wouldn't be able to use spot metering. Before I start spending money, I'd like to hear comments on that option. I generally use my 28mm lens to photograph buildings and other outdoor city scenes. How limiting would the elimination of spot metering be for city photos?I shoot with a PL almost exclusively with center weighted averaging meter in auto mode. The PL seems to level differences enough that it almost always come out right on, and then I always bracket. I have a thin PL-Circ which was expensive ($40-50) but worth it to me. If I only had a PL-Linear and were going to the trouble of spot metering, I would use the linear polarizer by applying a filter factor -- usually about 1.5 stops IIRC. Meter away, determine exposure, open up 1.5 stops one way or another, then screw in your PL-L and shoot. A Worthy Experiment might be setting exposure comp dial to +1.5, spot meter, and then screw in PL-L. I think that should work (but have never tried it).
