The rare earth elements cause the earlier lenses to go yellow as they age
(also some early 1.4's).
Note that the 50mm/1.2 is generally a better lens than the earlier 55mm.

Recently there was discussion about the rare earth elements used on the
55mm
f1.2 lenses. As I appear to have missed the earlier thread can someone
refresh my memory on the significance of the rare earth elements. Also the
breakpoint in the serial nos. at 137000. As I do not know the significance
of the rare earth element which is a better lens - the earlier or the later
version, both optically and from the collecting point.
