Hey,
This is a great excuse for me to thank everyone who wrote and wrote about
tripods lately. I've always been dissatisfied with my $30 (in 1974 US
dollars, this was about the cost of 3 tanks full of gasoline) Velbon tripod.
It has a geared elevator center column which I never used of course. I had
to extend the center column to get it up to eye level and the plastic sleeve
was never a snug fit. Simply put: the center column wiggled.
The good news is that with the knowledge from you folks, my Oly List
buddies, I decided to buy a used Bogen. I got a catalog and decided on the
3021 legs in a trip to the local camera store. To assuage my guilt over
using their display without making a purchase, I bought some 1600 C-41 film.
Anyway, last week I found an earlier version (3020) of the 3021 legs on the
internet, used for $49 US instead of ~$110 new. The hard part was finding
the 3047 head. I had to have that when I saw the dual bubble levels. Used:
$49, new $75.
Ironically, I like the idea that my "new" acquisition has "wabi" as my lady
friend says. Character. :)
So, how do you guys carry these monsters? I'm thinking about trying a gym
bag strap. Do you recommend the genuine Bogen strap? Case?
