Jim:
I just looked at the auction you cited. The case in the auction
attached through the tripod mount, rather than the little leather straps
that wrap around the strap lugs.
I (sort of) remember at one time that the list had a discussion on what
a bad idea it was to use the tripod socket to hold the case on to the
body, but I can't remember the sorid details for the life of me. The
case for my Leica M3 attaches through the tripod socket, and it just
works just fine.
BTW, the current semi-hard case 3 has a bigger nose yet, and will
accomodate a short (35-70 or so) zoom. The brown leather case will
accomodate a lens as long as the 85 mm f/2. Miine is marked 1.2N on the
underside.
