Last month I flew from Los Angeles to Santiago, Chile and returned in
a flight from Rio de Janeiro to Los Angeles with a stop and plane
change/customs in Miami.
I carried my film in clear canisters inside zip log bags and was
fortunate to get hand inspection everywhere I asked. There was a
certain amount of irritation by some of the people doing it, but the
single ISO 800 roll saved it from a refusal. Most were very
courteous. In Rio I am afraid I lied when he said I had to have at
least 1600 ISO film. I said I did and the person who actually opened
each canister and looked did not care about ISO. I would recommend at
least one or two rolls of ISO 1600 in the baggy to qualify for hand
inspection. My shoes were x-rayed twice.
I was on a cruise and discovered that all purses, bags, and other
containers were x-rayed upon every reboarding from a port. Camera
around the neck and film in the pocket were ignored.
