Hello fellow Zuikoholics,
On aspect of Gary Reese's lens tests is that for many he used a Bogen lens
support, and the increased resolution and improved contrast resulting from
this use, was usually quite noticeable.
Who amongst us uses one of these supports on a regular basis?
Secondly, I was scanning a distant landscape just now with my 100~200,
and it crossed my mind (like the shadow of a hawk flying overhead) what
Gary records about the contrast that lenses deliver and how it alters as you
go from centre to edge. So what I did was this; pin-pointed a bright, detailed
part of the view in the centre, and kept my eye on it. Then I panned the lens
sideways, observing and thinking about the change in the image quality as I
did so. And back and forwards a few times.
The reduction in contrast, and the light fall-off, from centre to edge, was
very
obvious.
Clearly, apertures that deliver high contrast from centre to edge are to be
taken seriously.
