There is no reason why you can't and as you have found out, it works well.
The idea of a matched multiplier is to optically tune (optimized) the 2x
converter for a specific lens range. Typically, the results are better than
if a standard 2x converter is used, even in varying light conditions.
The Vivitar 70 - 150 mm 2x matched multiplier has been selling on eBay for
5.00 - 15.00 USD the past few months. Someone bought 3 new (old stock) 2x
matched multipliers (Dutch auction) for 5.00 USD about 45 days ago.
