Use of Ni-Cad batteries in the QA310 OR the BG1 will cause heat and/or
malfunction. IT IS NOT SAFE FOR YOU OR YOUR GEAR!!! Don't use anything but
maganese or alkaline batteries unless you like shelling out for new gear.
$75US is a decent price for the BG1 and QA310. That's about what I paid for
mine, and another $20 or so for the remote sensor (to use on an OM-1) so I
don't think you got a bad deal.
The BG2, on the other hand, costs a fortune used in comparison and IMHO, is
not all that much more functional than the BG1... however, if you want TTL
flash on a BG with a camera other than the OM-2, it's a must.

the grip (with "C" cells installed) gets rather warm (almost hot) after
about 6 to 8 flashes. What is causing this? Did I mess something up?

I have heard that you SHOULD NOT USE ni-cad or NiMH batteries with the QA310
flash!!! I haven't heard what happens if you do, but I have a non-functional
QA310 that might be the result of this. It 'whines' but never charges up,
and won't flash.
