There's a parallel argument in audiophile circles, to wit, that
listening to reproduced music for extended periods of time sets one up
for a disappointment auditory experience at a real concert. [What did
they *do* to the bass!]

That's not the argument I remember, in fact it's ass backward. There used
to be a good writer for _The Absolute Sound_ who frequently commented that
his method was to religiously attend live concerts in order to "re-tune"
his ears for the equipment reviews he wrote. That makes entirely more sense.
I haven't read that magazine for years, indeed, my primary sound system
today is my puny 5.1 system by Cambridge SoundWorks. Sad, that. I mean it's
okay as computer sound systems go, but really. <g> (Maybe I should get my
old Advents re-coned. Hmmm. Then I'd need a new amp and pre-amp and . . . . )
