Correct. The hole in the top of the camera on the back slope of the
prism housing does not connect directly to any cord. Either the "TTL
Auto Connector Type 4" or the "Acessory Shoe 4" (Commonly called a Shoe
4) is needed to screw into the camera adn make the flash connections.
For those who already had a Shoe 4, Oly provided the "TTL Auto Shoe Cord
T", which slips in to the flash shoe and connects to the 5 pin connector
on the T32, T45, Bounce Grip 2 and T Power Control. This is the easiest
solution for those who want to use the flash both on and off camera, as
the Shoe 4 just stays on the camera. For those with more complex flash
setups, the "TTL Auto Connector Type 4" provides a direct socket for the
5 pin cords.
All of this only applies to the OM-1n and 2n. and the T series flashes
listed above. There are similar adapters for the OM-1 and 2. There is
also an adapter that mounts on the bottom of of the T18 and T20 to allow
TTL remote use with the TTL T cords.
The whole thing is much simpler starting with the OM-2s, as that and all
later single digit OM cameras had both a built in flash shoe and a 5 pin
connector on the front. I believe the the 2n is complicated because the
camera wa designed before the flash stuff got more sophisticated.
Yes it is all a bit confusing, but does allow some pretty amazing
multiflash TTL flash control.

Moose,
Apparently i don't understand the cord thingy. so I have a 2n with a
shoe 4 and a T-32. if i go from the shoe 4 to the T-32, i need a "TTL
Auto Shoe Cord T", and if i take the shoe 4 off, then i need a "TTL
Auto Connector Type 4" attached to a "TTL Auto Cord T"... is this
correct? so it doesn't plug straight from the round hole on the
camera to the round hole on the flash?
(i'm all confused with all the TTL's and cords and Shoes and whatnot:)

Sounds like you may want the TTL Auto Shoe Cord T 0.6, which connects
directly to a Shoe 4 on a 2n. the TTL Auto Cord T 0.6m you mention
