This could be the case if you have either a "2 series" screen, or a Beattie
Intenscreen installed in you OM2. Even if this is the case, John H. can
remedy the metering problem, or you could put in a "1-series" screen, but it
won't be as bright.
Also, note that there are 2 separate metering systems in an OM2. One meter
reads light while the sutter is closed and gives you an approximate exposure
reading on auto, but is the real meter reading on manual. in auto, once the
shutter is tripped, the metering switches over the the OTF meter which reads
light "off the film (OTF)" during the exposure & closes the shutter once
enough light has hit the film plane. In manual, this correction is not
present.
so the problem could also be that your OTF meter is working correctly, but
your viewfinder meter is off. I think John H can also fix this.
To check which screen you have, drop the screen down from the prism (there
is a small lever/tab to pull). there will be a glass tab on the screen. If
it is a 1-series screen it will have a number on the tab, most likely
between 1 and 14 depending on the type. If it is a 2-series screen, it will
have a 2 followed by a dash and than a number. Most likely 2-4 or 2-13.
Hope this helps.
