I never could figure that out. I think it was one of Oly's big design
mistakes. If nothing else, mirror lockup would have given them a small
but steady market for astrophotography. Instead of dropping the
mechanical mirror lockup, they could have added aperture pre'fire' to
the same type of lever and had something really unique and useful. I
dislike the unadjustable self-timer delay for mirror and aperture
prefire on the OM-4(T(i))s, but find it preferrable to nothing. Gary's
tests don't make everything clear, but they sure do make the point about
vibration reduction.
