I've had several lenses with slow apertures, and all of them were cured
only by cleaning off the linkage rings behind the lens mount - there
wasn't anything on the aperture blades themselves. This is a very easy
repair to try yourself if you want, since the only thing you need is a
suitable screwdriver, and maybe a tweezers for reconnecting the little
spring. After all, it is just a 50/1.8, so is a good practice lens.
Anyway, just remove the 3 screws holding the rear mount on, then two more
little screws inside, and the rings will come out - just pay attention on
how they're in there so you can reassemble it ;)
And, as others have said the sn>1.1M is for the 50/1.4. MIJ 50/1.8's
start at a bit over 3,000,000. I've got a MIJ, sn 3,811,xxx which is
indistinguishable from one with sn 3,100,xxx that just says Japan on the
front.
