Hi Larry,
The ONLY way to get faster flash synch speeds is with the F280 flash on an
OM-4T, OM-3T, or OM-77 (707). No other flash will work, because the
focal-plane shutters of the Olympus line are limited to 1/60 sec flash synch.
The F280 flash "stretches out" its flash duration and operates like no other
flash. A "regular" flash, flashes for say, 2 milliseconds while the shutter
is completely open, exposing the entire frame. Since the focal-plane shutter
is really two shutter curtains racing across the frame, (at faster than synch
speed) a slit is formed that moves across the frame, and, as such, only one
small section of the frame is exposing the film at any one time, so a regular
flash will not impact on the entire frame; and the F280, by adding many multi
bursts of flash, stretches out this
flash exposure so the entire frame is exposed by flash as that slit moves
across. I hope I explained this clearly....

Best,
George S.
