There are several programs with the same basic power as Photoshop:
Photopaint, PaintShop Pro, Gimp.... All are cheaper that PS. I used
Photopaint for years, it was very good. But I felt like an island.
Try looking at Digital Light and Color's "Picture Window." Organized
differently than PhotoShop; more like a darkroom. The UI is geared for
beginner simplicity with some powerful depth underneath as experience
grows. As powerful as PhotoShop with a price that's much, much
lower. It's what I've used for a number of years. DL&C offers a "trial
version" to see if you like it first. The "test drive" sold me.
