"3Ti does otf flash" I know we've gone over this at length, but how does
the 3Ti do this? That is, the 4Ti does otf flash, but how
(physically/mechanically) does the 3Ti.
Actually it probably wasn't that difficult to add OTF flash to the OM-3. It
already had the silicon sensor in the bottom of the mirror box looking back
up at the sub-mirror/film plane. Since flash exposure is done completely off
the film, and not the shutter curtain, no speckled pattern is required on the
shutter curtains either. Remember, OTF flash is controlling the flash, not
the shutter, so as long as your shutter speed is set to 1/60 or slower you're
golden.
One caveat... if the OM-3Ti's shutter speed is set very slow, you could get
overexposure from ambient light. It will leave the shutter open for whatever
duration you have set it to, unlike the OM-4Ti which closes the shutter at
the same time it shuts off the flash.
Hope this helps,
