Yikes, that's a _lot_ of dirt. Anyone out there got an old 50/1.8 they want
to do some testing with? Presumably at the least, though, that's going to
reduce the incoming light by 1%, so everything'll get slightly dimmer --
pretty trivial change, though.
Perhaps it's just to avoid scratches which will reflect light into
unfortunate places?
