Um.. suddenly I realise that I don't understand autofocus. How _does_ it
work? I assumed that it bounced an infrared beam off the thing it was
focussing on and timed pulses (or something) to judge the distance; that's
why they get confused by windows in the way, etc.
It sounds like this is wrong, if the IR light is there to 'assist' things,
though -- and the mention of horizontal -vs- vertical sensors confuses me
even further.
So what does autofocus really do?
