Har de Har Har Har!!!
I love it. I went into a Starbucks here in San Diego carrying my Morgan Sparks
clad OM-1, naked of it't Never-Ready case with a 28/2.8 and hood on it. I was
not trying to "make a statement" and did not wear my boat shoes with no socks
and cable knit wool sweater and chinos.
I was sitting at a table reading FORBES when a fellow sauntered over and wanted
to know what kind of old camera that was. I said an Olympus OM-1. He pointed
out that all Olympus cameras were black and that mine was obviously a very rare
and strange item. He was carrying a N...n wunderbrick that must have weighed 5
pounds. I agreed that it was rare and perhaps strange, not unlike it's owner.
" Could he look through the viewfinder?" "Wow, this thing is tiny and feel so
nice in my hands."
He seemed disappointed that I didn't ask to look through the viewfinder of his
N....n. I was afraid I couldn't lift it. He left with his Latte lugging the
wunderbrick. It was surreal. I gotta go there more often, take a book by
Studs Terkel or somesuch. Staring through people is easy in my usual state of
distraction.
