Brian, I use denatured alcohol to clean mine. There may be those who have 
differing opinions, but it seems to work well, evaporates quickly and causes 
no harm.  I am careful to not get things dripping wet, rather just moist.  It 
is cheap at a hardware store in the US.  This stuff is what is used to thin 
shellac and to power marine stoves. That's kind of frightening however if 
used judiciously, works fine for me.  Bill Barber
