A suggestion for further investigation (Acer): Try the same rig ,
either with an empty camera or using the test button, firing straight at
a uniformly coloured wall and see if the recycle time changes
significantly with distance. It should. If light is getting directly
to the sensor, then you should see less variation, since the
diffuser-to-sensor distance is constant.
