Don't overlook E (existential?)-Bay. Yard sales. Pawn shops. And your
local thrift shops, as well a camera stores that offer used gear. I've seen
more than half a dozen slide projectors (several brands) and multiple trays
for same in the last year or so, just in thrift stores. Grabbed one
projector at a yard sale for $1. Screen for $1. Some perfectly good stuff
being "dumped" as people move on to digital, dad dies, etc.
In the spirit of Doris Fang, we should all go yard sale shopping from time to
time. Yes, it's time consuming to try all these alternates to dealers, but
oh, boy, is it ever a great feeling to "score" a "Fang" while treasure
hunting! And it provides an outlet while banging one's head against the
brick wall of official sources.
