Weird stuff; "5-segment 3D Matrix Metering supported by Nikon's on-board
DataBase of over 30,000 stored images in all Auto Modes ensure proper
exposures".
From the press release, it says:
"The N55 inherits Nikon's sophisticated 3D Matrix metering system and
ensures accurate exposures under diverse situations. To accurately
determine
the ideal exposure, the N55 uses three types of data -- scene brightness,
scene contrast and subject distance. After analyzing this data, the camera
chooses the precise combination of shutter speed and aperture to achieve a
balanced exposure."
which sounds pretty sketchy to me -- sounds like it guesses that you're
taking one of 30,000 pictures, and then exposes as it thinks best for that
picture.
Presumably the next step is to remove the lens entirely and just have
30,000 images stored in memory, then when you press a button it chooses one
of those for you..
sheesh.
