One time when I was between jobs I sold vacuum cleaners. I was told to
forget selling features to the women and show them their dirt. Show the
features to the men. I think camera buyers fall into two disproportional
groups. The largest want something simple to use. The second want the
latest gadget. Somewere the concept of quality has fallen by the wayside.

It is simple - 20 years ago cameras were compared based on quality. Now they
are compared (mostly) by price. Joe Consumer doesn't say "Hum which camera
will give me the best image" he says "I'll buy the cheapest one."
More then once I've been in a Ritz or Wolf or Dury and heard the sales man
move the customer to a cheapo zoom. "This zoom is the same as that but it
is 1/2 the price and goes from 28 to 90 intead of 35 to 70...." or "buy
...."
Joe Blow seems clueless with regards to image quality vs lens...
