Point 4 is excellent. There are some CCDs that are good at low-light
photography. I have used some for astrophotography, but they can be
horrifically expensive. The one I have used (borrowed) is made by SBIG, an
STV. Check it out at www.sbig.com

The ones for astrophotography are cooled, some at very low temperatures,
and this help to mantain the (termical) noise low.
