I own that magnifier. Yes it's nice since it's acrylic construction
concentrates the light so that the resultant image in the magnifier is
brighter than that without. However, it provides a magnification of only
2.5X, and it cost some $50 USD.
A better solution is the 4X MagnaBrite magnifier by the Saunders Group
(http://www.magnabrite.com/html/home.htm). I own the 64mm (2.5 inch)
diameter with a drawstring pouch, obtained from B&H in New York It can be
had for only $17.95 (cheaper than the DeutscheOptik!) from B&H
(http://www02.bhphotovideo.com/default.sph/FrameWork.class?FNC=ProductActiva

0 Note that this version does NOT include the drawstring pouch).
The ultimate solution is probably the 4X - 12X Zoom Loupe from Mamiya
(http://www.mamiya.com/products.asp?id=1&id2=1378). I don't own this one
... yet! ;-) However, by all reports (and I DO emphasize ALL), it is
superbly crafted like a fine precision instrument and is extremely bright.
It comes with a built-in translucent hood for viewing prints and a removable
black metal hood for slides. It can be had from B&H for $299
(http://www02.bhphotovideo.com/product/216436/MALZ4X12X/REG/987).

John
