I am back from Taiwan!! :-) I gained 10lbs in 21 days! WOW! I ate sooo
much. Hmm.. I took 13 rolls of pictures. I'll get them developed and if
any of them are of interest (400+ pics, there's bound to be a few, yes?)
I'll post them. The pics are mainly of food. I love Taiwan, the food is
great!
On a slightly different note, my (new) girlfriend (in Taiwan) (yes, I got
me one in Taiwan, cool huh?) She was not very into taking pictures, but one
of our outings, I explained to her on the train, how my Om1 worked, and some
basics of cameras, film, shutter speed, aperature settings, lens etc....
and she listened. And so when we went to the zoo, I gave her the camera,
said, match the needle into the two little tabs, and click, and you are
done. Well, she went crazy and took 2 rolls at the zoo.. (Taiwan only
sells rolls of 36, no 24's in taiwan) and so she took 72 pics herself. She
started getting addicted.. She was like, "Wait, I think that was a bad
shot, I want to try it from a different angle" or she'd say "Give me a
different lens."
She likes my OM, it's very small, and "cute" as she says. But she didn't
like switching between the prime lenses... So I'm thinking of buying
another Om1n, and a 35-105mm zoom for her... what do you guys think? Is
that all she basically needs to get started on her photo career?
I love my OM! There were quite a few groups of japanese tourists at most
places I went to visit (when is there not??) I don't mean there as sarcasm,
just pointing out the obvious. And more so with Americans than Japanese,
they seem to have more of a "curious" presentation than a "mine is bigger
than yours, watch me drop mine down Jaw's throat" like the other story..
But they seem to stare at their Nikons in hand, look at mine, and then stare
at theirs, and then they began a Nikon vs. Olympus debate amongst
themselves.. I can tell that prior to seeing me with my camera, they were
having a "oh so rare, Canon vs. Nikon" debate... And my OM seems to have
disturbed "the force" in their discussions. I have noted that compared to
some of the Canon and Nikons, they seem to be in awe of the size of the OM..
So I was proud that I was the only one with an OM there, and that my OM was
the topic of their conversation. They seem to be very intimidated by the
fact that my camera was a lot smaller than theirs... go figure... where as
most americans seem to be intimidated by bigger.
So we shall see how my pics turn out... The development cost is going to
burn a whole in my wallet, oh well, the price we pay for decent quality
development... I developed a roll in Taiwan as a test. I asked the lady...
They don't change chemicals, they use crappy paper, I compared what I am use
to at home here in the states (I actually get my development done by Fuji,
hence the great quality but high price tag) and the stuff developed in
Taiwan was crap.. And so brought all my film back to develop instead of
develop them in Taiwan.. If you all get a chance, go visit Taiwan, I think
I will be moving there in May... So I guess I will have to find a decent
development place there regardless..
