Hi,
I've never found these to cause an out-of-balance problem. My main tripod is
a Gitzo 320 with a Manfrotto 3-way pan-tilt head which is itself a bit unwieldy
- though it's very tight.
All of these devices move the camera a bit further away from the region of
greatest stability - the apex of the tripod. They seem firm and pretty wobble-
free to me.
But there's no doubt in my mind that they can be of great help in speedily
getting to grips with a subject in the field - or indoors for that matter. They
do
have locking clamps to reduce creep after you have composed and focussed.
B&H have them new for $US 110 (rail) and 70 (stage).
