I don't think a pro lens is designed to be able to survive from drop, my friend
dropped a 28-70/2.8 Canon to ground and it turn into two pieces. Your argument
is ridiculous, I haven't said anything about pro lens, I just said smaller lens
is cheap to make, the most expensive item of a lens is lens elements, smaller
lens element is cheaper.
You think a 28-70/2.8 for 35mm film camera is cheaper than equivalent focal
length zoom for a DC with 4/3" CCD????

I don't think you can compare this new SLR system lenses with a P&S lens.
It'll have to be so much more solidly built and mounted, you wouldn't see any
similarity when placed side-by-side. Drop a P&S onto the floor and see what
happens. Pros wil not accept any similar results from the new system.

I'm sure smaller lens is cheaper to make as you can see from the price
of zoom P&S, Olympus uses glass elements but the price is very cheap,
the reason is smaller lens element. Many people thing smaller is more
expensive that is not true, it is the manufacturer want to make more
profit for the so call "state of the art" miniature equipment.
