The sensor size dictates the sizes of everything around it, especially lens
mount & any SLR viewing mirror/prism. Standardising that for a while allows
accessories, lenses, etc. to flourish. E.G., the 35mm format.
I hope Oly changes the format to a squarer format to better match a lens
image circle.

Does Olympus bring next year a change objective digital camera?
2001-04-27
Owing to the note of our Japanese colleague Yamada Kumio we can report of a
small sensation from Japan. It seems in such a way, as if Olympus wants to
bring next year out a mirror reflex digital camera with change objectives.
On Kodak he evolution 2001-Seminar, which took place recently in Japan,
mentioned Mr. Kojima (division manager for digital cameras with Olympus) as
a guest speaker for general surprise that Olympus will already announce a
digital mirror reflex camera with change wechselobjektivfassung on the
next PMA Fotomesse in the spring 2002. To the Photokina in Cologne in
September 2002 the introduction on the market will then take place.
Except that the new camera a change wechselobjektivfassung will possess,
one knows still that it will possess a 4/3-Zoll-CCD-Sensor with largest
probability. It could concern thereby the 5,1-Megapixel-Bildwandler KAF-
5100CE von Kodak, which would then explain also the appearance of a Olympus
representative on a Kodak meeting. It could concern thereby in addition, a
common development between Kodak and Olympus; both enterprises had
announced recently a co-operation even in the area of the digital camera or
image converter development. Additionally is the new camera with the newest
developments in the area of the data storage, the current supply and the
data communication (glossary word: Bluetooth) equipped its. An approximate
price was likewise already called: approx. 200,000 Yen.
Olympus Europe could give no further specification to the current point in
time still this small sensation, acknowledged however the development of
such a camera. One is certain however: All views of the digital camera
municipality toward the PMA 2002 (24 until 27 February 2002 ) will be
directed now. (yb)
Also:
2001-02-20 whether Olympus its CD SUPPLIER of many years Sony becomes
unfaithful? Anyhow Olympus and Kodak together communicated a patent barter
agreement within the area of the digital photography in the US photo fair
PMA in Orlando/Florida. Both enterprises possess at present within this
area about in each case 1,000 patents, from which they are to profit now
mutually. In the original press release it is located among other things
that Olympus and Kodak will operate in the future together on the
development (of the design up to the finished development) of high-
resolution DS for the Consumer Digitalkamerabereich, which will then
manufacture Kodak. Olympus will buy for his part this DS for its future
digital cameras at Kodak and among other things by appropriate licensings
of the experience or the realizations of Kodak on the area of the on-line
photo services use will pull. One may be thus strained, which products and
services of this Japanese-American purpose marriage will rise.

digital SLR with interchangeable lenses based around the Kodak 4/3-inch 5-

be making a selection of five lenses available for the new camera. The
official announcement of the new camera will come at PMA 2002 in February
with the sale to start soon after, just in time for Photokina. Olympus is
