The adhesive on the leatherette on my OM-4T is quickly weakening and
the leatherette is starting to peel back from the camera. The condition
isn't too serious yet ¯ so far less than 1 centimeter of leatherette
has peeled back on the side where the film door swings open. There's no
need to replace it all but I want to glue or mount it so that it
doesn't get worse. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what adhesive
works best?
Thanks for any and all advice.
Marc,
the same has happened to my recent OM-2n purchase. The leatherette was in
perfect condition, but because of the age, the wings where too rather fatigued
- more or less completely dried out and a rather crispy look to them. Remeber,
for leather to last it must be treated. Now if Id thought of that at the start
and inspected it I would of been safe.
Im not sure or aware of a glue mount that would be a 'sufficient or
appropriate' remedy for your problem. But what I am going to do is take it to a
boot maker and get his robust sewing gear to do the hard work, quickly,
properly and at a reasonable cheap price. My friend had the same happen to his
old Ricoh XR-2 and was like nothing happended. Then after that was completed,
he applied leather softner to the affected areas which helped reduce the
fragility on those dried out parts of the leatherette.
Hope that helps a little,
Damo
