I use the focusing rail when I am 'shooting from the car' and not hiking great
distances. When I am backpacking I just use the auto tube directly on the
tripod and 'deal with it'. I have yet to go to QR plates with the tripod. Just
haven't gotten around to that yet. It also adds more bulk and weight to the
system, maybe not as much as the focusing rail, but more than not using them.
