Carol,
One way to bid, that I find is often "successful" without leading to
competing and over-bidding, is to use a snipe auto-bidder set for 10 seconds
before the auction closes. You decide in advance and set your maximum bid
and then there are 3 scenarios:
1. Auction is already over your limit so no bid
2. You bid up to the reserve (if there is one) and win, as long as there are
no other bidders
3. You bid until you are either the highest bidder (and win) or until you
reach your limit (and lose) against other bidders
Try someone like http://hammertap.auctionstealer.com/secure/signup.cfm which
is free.
Good luck and may you win many Zuikos at good prices,
David

Subject: [OM] 180 mm f/2.8 Zuiko lens
I just wanted to thank those of you who responded to my question about this
lens. I see that there is one on eBay right now and I'm thinking of trying
for it. (Will I be competing with people on this list? I hope not - - or
else let me know!) Are there questions I should be asking the seller
beforehand? Looking at the list of Zuiko lenses put together by Paul
Farrar, it seems like I should expect to pay up to $645 for a 180 f/2.8, if
it really is in mint condition. Since there is no Buy It Now option, I have
to admit that eBay is a little intimidating. Any advice on how to be a
successful bidder? I'll really appreciate any help from this group of
knowledgeable Olympus owners. Thanks!
Carol
