: I don't really understand what features make a good camera or what the
: differences between these cameras are.

I agree with others that a (chrome) OM-2n is the best buy regarding
quality/features/price ratio to get into the OM System. It's part of the
single digit professional line, meaning better built quality, better
reliability and (unlike the double digits) full compatibility with the
entire range of lenses and accessories of the System. One feature that you
may need in the future, for instance when you want to do something with
macrophotography or astrophotography are exchangeable focusing screens. The
double digits have a fixed (non-exchangeable) screen. Unlike the mechanical
OM-1(n) (which is cheaper) the OM-2(n) features both manual exposure and
auto exposure (aperture preferred).

The OM-2n also features Olympus' famous Off The Film (OTF) flash system,
unlike the OM-1(n), OM-3, OM-10, OM-20 & OM-30. The other bodies that have
this are the OM-2SP (Spot Program), OM-4, OM-4T(i), OM-3Ti and OM-40 (PC),
but these (except the 40/PC) are (much) more expensive as an OM-2n. The
40/PC lacks the professional build quality and has more (vulnerable to
failures) electronics. The OM-2n is the successor of the original version,
the OM-2. It has, to quote The Evil Empire, a built-in 'Service Pack 1' ;).

Chrome OM-2n bodies are cheaper as black bodies. Try to get one that comes
with the optional Accessory (flash) Shoe 4; it saves you the trouble of
searching for it when you want to explore flash photography. OTF flash,
which reads the flash output through the lens rather than from a sensor in
the flash, can be very helpfull in difficult situations like
macrophotography or using a wide angle lens. It is only possible with
dedicated flashes like the Olympus T18, T20 and T32 or some third party
flash manufacturers like Metz.
