        Hmm...yes, actually I shut the computer off and went to work on the
thing last night before I saw this advice, and so didn't wind it first.
I knew I had problems when it started unwinding as it came apart. The
good news is, it is working fine now, after much tinkering. I ran it
about 30 or 40 cycles, and it works every time. 
        Now I'm wondering how many surprises there would be to replacing the
desilvering prism. Maybe I'll just use it the way it is for awhile.
