Mike, I clean most of the stuff I get using Windex and q-tips. Just lightly
dampen one end of the q-tip, not so's its dripping... Rub on the surface,
then swipe with the dry end, or use a kleenix to dry. Use a new q-tip when
the cotton gets frayed or dirty. Use 'canned air' to blow off the kleenix
dust.
This seems to work pretty good on most normal-handling grime, on lens
elements start with clean new q-tips. Works well on chrome and black
finishes, lens bodies, camera bodies. Seems to work OK on the leatherette,
and on plastic point-and-shoots bodies too.
I would watch out for any harsh solvents (i.e. acetone, lacquer thinner,
naptha etc.) test first on a very small spot, and don't use harsh solvents
of any sort on plastic! Don't use even a q-tip on mirrors, and avoid blowing
the 'canned air' (usually its something else) on mirrors also!
