Barry,
A N*kon FM3A would be my choice. It struck me how when it was
introduced that the specifications read like an OM-2. Continuing the
analogy, the FM2 is comparable to an improved OM-1. You could also plan
on purchasing an AF body at some point, and preserve your investment in
lenses. The FM-10 is basically the OM-2000 with a different lens mount.
I love my OMs, but I don't know if I could (in good conscience)
recommend them to the "Average Person".

Well, we don't want the "average person" using an OM, do we?
This is a problem. Even B&H no longer lists Pentax K1000 or MX and
only list 3 manual focus lenses. Can we see a dead end here? Nikon
wind levers poke me in the eye. The FM2/3 is getting pricey. Might
as well get a Zeiss Aria for $649.(Student camera?) A Sigma SLR with
all the controls epoxied in the manual positions? I think not. That
leaves the Bessa L for for $179. Hey, a new generation of
rangefinder users. It's either that or a course on reading and
understanding digital camera menus.
