Well, I'm very sorry to inform you that Enschede (which is where I still
live nowadays!) is about as boring/uninteresting a city as they get. Really,
this is no joke, Enschede is constantly under construction, so where the
centre of the city is already uninteresting, it is very inaccessible too now
:(
Most of the explosion site has now been torn down (i.e. all the remnants
that were located at the inside of the "ring" in which the explosion hit
hardest have already been demolished), some of the buildings in the outer
ring of the explosion can still be seen (though not quite in the same state
as that day), but not a whole lot is left.
As for other things in Enschede: well there's not a whole lot I can think
of, there's a textile museum which is aparantly not too bad, but that's
about it.
More interesting in my opinion are the smaller towns/villages that are
located in the surroundings of Enschede, especially Oldenzaal, Denekamp and
Ootmarsum (!) a worth a visit, with the latter being a picturesque small
"artist's town" with several galleries.
Also, there are a few forests in the vicinity of Enschede, but as we are in
the middle of the wettest part of autumn, they may not be a whole lot of fun
to visit. If, however, you catch a sunny day, then these forests should be
nice for having a stroll in autumn land.
Ah yes... Do not forget to bring an umbrella, and a warm coat ;)
Cheers!
Olafo
